How to Style Mixed Prints this Season

I think it’s clear by now I love a good mixed print combination. I know this combination can really stress some people out (I’m talking to you Mom!) I’ve never really been one for the whole matchy matchy thing. Other people can rock a head to toe perfectly coordinated ensemble, complete with a matching purse and shoe (Blair Eadie from Atlantic-Pacific, you are the Queen Bee of coordinating). I’ve never really been able to completely pull that look off. Maybe it’s my art school past but I like things to feel a little bit off. I like to think of it as intentionally disheveled. I’m pretty sure my mother hates this quality in me, although she always says it in the nicest way, “You are just so brave. You don’t have to perfectly match anything, you just go with it!” (Thanks Mom). Seriously though, who has time to carry Pantone color swatches around on a shopping trip. This is where the mixed prints come in handy. You make the mismatch “a thing” and all the sudden getting dressed got a whole lot easier… and edgier.

  1. Start with basics.

  2. Add prints in your layers.

  3. Don’t be afraid of color.

  4. Treat animal prints like a neutral.
